I don't do residential. Let me restate that. I won't do residential.
I have nothing against cleaning homes. There are some huge advantages: 1) faster buying decision over commercial, 2) easier to get referrals, 3) fast in and out service, 4) you can typically get away with charging a higher rate, 5) You get paid faster, 6) It's rewarding when you solved their pain point of time, or not wanting to do it themselves. It's more rewarding.
My only hang up is scale. Under our last company, our average client size in 2021 was $6000/mo in revenue. How many homes would we have to clean to match this average? A lot.
Any house cleaners reading this know all to well the challenges of finding clients. Below is a repeat of advice I shared with someone else on finding house cleaning clients. I hope this helps.
I don’t do residential but my first go-to would be to drive around in your service area. The houses are right there with the address. At a minimum you can do direct mail and door to door. I would make sure that every single home in my service area was on my prospect list. To consolidate time I’d target by neighborhood.
I’d also have my website setup with lead magnets on it so that I could capture name, emails, and phone numbers. And with that, I’d begin calling and emailing them.
But I’d do other stuff too. I’d market through networking at local chamber or BNI events. I’d probably strategically place flyers around town. I’d probably wrap my car. I would create a paid referral program. I might even create yard signs and offer $10 off for a client, or something like that if I could put my sign next to their sidewalk, if there’s foot traffic.
For outbound stuff, I’d blog. I’d do social media marketing. On FB I probably would strategically post content on my biz and personal page. I’d be active in local groups. I’d spend most time on FB serving within local groups, vs talking about my biz. I’d probably do ads too. On YouTube I would create a
They Ask, You Answer type of setup where I record content and share it. I’d also create a man about town type of content sharing the latest and greatest in my community and spend at least half of my time profiling other businesses. Why? They have a bigger audience you can now reach. I’d probably also create a local podcast, sponsored by my cleaning biz.
Finally, I’d focus on the community. I’d sponsor local sports teams. I’d sponsor walking trails. I’d sponsor a local event or race. I’d host community cleanup days. I would engage in free PR to get our name out there. I’d also have a strategic alliance with local mortgage lenders, local business owners, commercial cleaning companies, etc. to actively trade leads.
Yup, I’d probably do most of these thing, resources permitting.
