What Are Your Goals for 2025?

I'm in a mastermind and the group has been meeting every Thursday at 11am consistently for years. While I was in another, I'm the relative newbie to the group at a year and a half. We're small in number and that works just fine, but I'm the resident janitor, along with an author of 17 or 18 books, a Nashville musician, an SEO and AI expert, and a realtor/land guy out of SE Texas. We're the motley crew of business. 

Although we're diverse, we do adhere to goal setting. We recently did a recent exercise together where, as a group, we answered these questions:

It's easy to state your goals (make sure your goals are SMART). It's easy to celebrate your past wins. But talking about your failures, given up dreams, and discarded goals was a challenge. It was a sobering exercise that I disliked doing but it needs to be done. You can't have your peaks without your valleys. 

What did I fail in for 2024? I started the Start From Scratch to $100K Community in August. That's going great and has been a lot of fun, but the cornerstone to that community is the launch of a new commercial cleaning company. Clean Line Janitorial Services launched (named thanks to the community) but the growth has fizzled. I haven't done what I needed to do to grow that cleaning biz. I've never been in startup mode and I'm learning it's harder than I realize. I have a new profound appreciation for those just starting out.

What else was a failure? I had some income goals, including from the new cleaning biz, that never materialized. I made a shift in who I coach at the end of 2023 and carried that through 2024, and I realize I made a tactical error. I need to focus on coaching those at $250K level and up. And I had some personal financial challenges with lower income, two totaled cars, 5 family visits to the ER, 2 surgical operations for our kiddos, a blown water pipe at the house, and a few other distractions. 

I did discard things to narrow my focus. I gave up on a new project for a cleaning related publication. A "No" now is a "Yes" later and it's still on my plate. I temporarily delayed Season 2 of Beyond the Mop podcast. I created 20 episodes using AI and my own words. I was challenged by a friend (hat tip: Ken Carfagno) that this was unauthentic. I can see his point of view so I pulled the plug and repurposed those episodes into the blog (take a look at most blog posts; there's an audio to it - AI did it). I had also planned on expanding consulting. I worked with other facilities in the past to help them choose the right cleaning company. I stopped that in 2022, but had an offer from Loudoun County, VA to go back in. That never materialized but made that a goal for 2024 which I discarded to focus on bandwidth. Finally, on a personal note, I had a goal of returning to distance running, and thanks to a plaguing injury, I discarded that (temporarily) in 2024.

But there were some 2024 wins. Because I went through those challenges, I have a new profound respect for my situation or season in life. I was also able to put in some new processes in my businesses that I never considered before. Moreover, while I delayed action on a community (org. slated for Dec. 2023), I finally launched the Start from Scratch to $100K community in August. Finally! Also, the My Clean Pivot Blog (what you're reading here) hit nearly 50,000 visitors in 2024 with over 5300 visitors per month at current. Super proud of that (Thanks for reading guys!). And while I don't have any major hats to hang on cleaning success, I did keep around some great cleaning clients and on a personal level I dropped 25 lbs. 

So, what's my 2025 goals? I will pull in $100K in new commercial cleaning biz by August 31, 2025. I will have a new YouTube channel launched. Part of it is video form of the blog and the other part is AI for Janitors, where I'll share AI hacks you can use in your cleaning business. Both of those will go live in January 2025. I haven't given up on the running and I have a return with a DC's Rock-n-Roll Half Marathon in March. And I'll have a new course launched for the masses covering biz foundations like mission, vision, values, and finding leads, marketing, and growth in 2025 and beyond, with a goal to get you to $250K. 

2025 is shaping up to be an awesome year.
